Re-encoding AVI worked. But not any more after reinstall of AutoGK

Hi, recently i had to reinstall the AGK-Package, because of many undersized AVI's. Since that point, a re-encode of an existing AVI fails. I want to add a *.srt subtitle-file to an AVI and tested some scenarios so far. But now VirtualDubMod shows an error at every try. This happens right after the compressibility test. Cannot open file "...\agk_tmp\frames.log" The system cannot find the specified file. I always encode with Xvid, but now i try it again with DivX. I will inform you about that result later... Any ideas, what causes that error? Andi

I do not have a codec pack installed. Recently i de-installed some games, i don't need at the moment. But the new install of AGK seems to be exactly the point, since encoding from AVI to AVI fails... As far as i know, i did not install apps, dll or drivers at that time. VOB to AVI works properly (because of new install).

Hello again, now i deinstalled all components of AutoGK including the Xvid-Codec. Then i made a reboot of my computer and re-installed AutoGK 2.27 + Update 2.33. I encoded an episode, which was undersized in earlier tries. (550 instead of 637 MB) And again, the resulting AVI has a size of exactly 550 MB. The most episodes have the desired size after encoding, but some episodes do not. Why? Greets, Andi

It's possible that with your selected resolution that the compression simply can't achieve a larger filesize. The default XviD settings used by AutoGK aren't the same that one might use with methods that allow for more control, and there's basically a cut-off point for the compression to keep the file size from getting too big.

Hi, that could be a reason. I always encode with a fixed-width of 720 pixels: Sometimes, i watch AVI-files on my standalone dvd-player. Some AVI's, which are smaller than 720 pixels, do not fill the tv screen completely. But what about a friend of mine? I gave him a lot of episodes to encode and every AVI of them have the size, which i want to. We both installed AGK in exactly the same way... It seems, there must be another reason for this problem. Well, i have installed ffdshow, my friend does not. Can this affect how an video is being encoded? Greets, Andi

Hi, i'm familiar with this rule. maybe i didn't express myself properly. :( I gave my friend a lot of episodes for testing purposes only. Not for sharing. If he wants to see this content, he can borrow my DVDs.
