Rear High Intensity Lights

MessageAuthor

stupid ignorent people lots off,i am no road rage fan but in those circumstances i would let them know that i know their light was on,cam i also find that some fog lights dim out the brake lights on some models.

I believe that using fogs in rain is illegal in any event.

RE: Rear High Intensity Lights

I have never considered turning my rear fog light off with a car behind me... (when there's fog) Usually when it's foggy here, it's pretty foggy. So if there is fog, my fog light goes on, and stays on for as long the fog stays, regardless of what kind of road I'm on, or if there is a driver behind me. If it's foggy and a car accidently runs into the back of me, the last thing I'd expect is the driver to start shouting off how he couldn't see my car because my fog light wasn't on. It's a stupid excuse but the best tip I ever learned was to treat every other driver on the road like an idiot! At the other end of the scale, I wish more drivers would use their fog lights; it's shocking how many drivers don't use their fog lights in morning fog - they must all be sleep-driving, which is even more worrying!

I switch mine on/off depending on the conditions - if the car behind gets closer and the fog is light or breaks for a mile or two then I switch off.

On local roads if we have a little fog I tend not to use my fogs but if i am on the motorway or a major A-road i will put my fog lights on but if another car gets reasonably close I turn them off, I can see nothing to be gained from dazzling the driver behind me and consider anyone who leaves their fog lights on as i approach them to be either ignorant or totally unaware they are blinding the driver behind them. Also as stated above it is easy to miss seeing the brake lights of the car in front if they have their fog lights on it can cause accidents. doesn't anyone remember the advertising campaign by the road safety people regarding the use of rear fog lights.

I too use my rear fog lights in the same way, on if no one behind me as soon as someone approaches and gets close enough that they can see me I will switch them off, what really annoys me is people using them in rain, or forgetting to switch them off the next day, or the ones who have cars where both front and rear lights are on the same switch and put the front ones on and rear together on a night with no fog, because they have no idea how to use them.

Its dependent on the conditions. If it is really foggy, rear stays on no matter what. If its foggy but rear lights are viewable from 40 odd meters, then the rear one will go off to avoid blinding the driver behind me.

My volvo thinks it's a BMW and always has front fogs on so it can inform lesser mortals of it's own importance. Sarcasm mode off ;)

Don't get me started! It's my pet hate we have had some fog but none that reduced visibility to 100 yards. People driving with fog lights blazing and like some Miami pensioner. I only use my rear fogs in seriously reduced visibility and switch off in slow moving close traffic.
