C70 (Hard top) Roof Problems

I am surprised to see almost nothing on the web about C70 roof problems when mine has failed for the 4th time and the car is not a year old yet. The dealers tell me that thier laptop computer has isolated the fault and that they have fixed it each time I visit. Well it packed up again on Saturday. Does anyone know about these roofs so I can point the dealer in the right direction and has anyone had any joy from Volvo's complaints department as I may have to take it to them.

I bought a 2009 Model C70 T5 SE Lux 2 weeks ago, this car is not even 9 months old yet and has just over 2000 miles on the clock. Since buying the car the roof has not closed properly as per the manual, i.e. press the button once and hold will not shut the roof, I need to press once, hold, then release and press again. On 3 separate occasions now I have had the message 'Roof Fault - see manual', 'Roof Fault - service required' come up on the display, also once a message came up stating 'Roof Failure'. The car went in to the dealer last week, they had it for 2 days as they were adding the iPod/USB integration into the stereo as well as sorting out a few service re-call issues, I asked them to check out the roof problems whilst they had the car. On getting the car back I asked how they had got on with the roof, they stated that their Master Technician had gone through the roof functions several times and could not find any problem, I tried it myself outside the dealer and for the first time since owning the car the roof shut properly as per the manual stated it should, i.e. one press and hold of the button! After speaking to them a little more about this we concluded that software updates may have fixed the problem inadvertantly. Unfortunately last weekend the same problem occured again and I could not shut the roof for approx 30 minutes, then yesterday I got the 'Roof Failure' message, but since then it has been working ok again. The car is booked to go back to the dealer again next week anyway to have a rear lip spoiler fitted, so I will hopefully be able to get a resolution to the problem then. This is pretty frustrating as I really like the car, but am starting to worry about using the car with the roof down now, as it is at the back of my mind that their may be a problem and I will not be able to shut the roof! Not really what I had expected with a car of this calibre..... Anyway I will let you know how it goes next week at the dealer!

That is great news, glad you finally have the problem resolved and can now hopefully enjoy the car! My car went in to get the lip spoiler fitted and the dealer told me exactly the same thing in regard to the roof, i.e. that they could not find the fault when they had the car, so they did not do anything! The day they brought the car back to me I put the roof down that afternoon and the same problem occured when trying to shut it again later on, so this is getting very frustrating indeed. Two overnight visits to the dealer for the car, and nothing has yet been done to try and fix the roof problem. At the moment I am just having to live with the problem, as it can be worked around, as long as I do not use the 'load lift' in the boot when the roof is down and press the button twice to shut the roof then everything is fine, however it really bugs me that it is not working as it should be and there is always the potential that it is going to display fault codes and not shut at all. I guess I am going to have to arrange a third visit to the dealer and try and be sure to actually demonstrate the problem to them...... With regard to the iPod integration, it works great and I'm very happy with the system, so not sure why you have heard it does not work?

I would urge you to contact Volvo Coustomer services as they are very helpful they will set up a case number and will ring the dealer direct and tell him to sort it. In addition they will ring you every week to check all is well. Look up Volvo UK in yell and ask for Coustomer services they will allocate you an advisor until it is fixed. I met someone else with a C70 yesterday and he has had no problems at all so I think it is basically a reliable product.

My roof has packed up anothe 3 times since the last post can anyone tell me my legal reights in returning the car

hi 18 jab, its not something simple like the handbrake switch is it ???
