Hi May be a daft question but ive been jacking up my 97 V70R AWD at the rear one side at a time to get the rear up on stands. Is it safe to use a trolley jack with a piece of wood and jack it on the alloy framework under the diff.Sorry just being safe.thanks.mike
I jack mine from under the diff no problems, my jack has a 6 inch dia hard rubber pad and has done no damage to the ally frame. Don't forget the axle stands if your going underneath. John
I had the same question. I have a 1999 V70R AWD and I wanted to jack it up and put jack stands under the jacking points. If I use the jack at the jacking points, of course there's no way to place the jack stand there. I could see the bracket under the rear differential, and wondered if I could jack it up there and then place the jack stands under the jacking points. Also, will putting the trans in Park, will it prevent it rolling, or do I need to block the front tires?

When I jack mine on the diff and axle stands I just leave it in park. If you are on level ground it won't go anywhere but if you feel safer just chock the wheels as well. John
