Logic thing

MessageAuthor

Ages ago I recorded keyboards with a producer that used Logic. We used a Korg Triton connected by MIDI and audio, and when we were happy with the MIDI, we could "render" it (really record the audio item) and replace the MIDI item. What would be the most clever way of doing this in Reaper? I could just record the audio by playing back the MIDI, but should I, for example, set punch in/out points, or what? I'm getting a hardware multitimbral synth, and I want to make a record around it. EDIT: there's the option of not recording MIDI at all. A producer I know doesn't like MIDI, and there are reasons for that IMO.

Having the MIDI is both a bless and a curse.

I think one could use MIDI and virtual instruments for pre-production, because it's so easy to tweak, but for the actual production it can be a hardware synth and a band, no MIDI. That'd be the best of both worlds. Just thinking outloud...

Couple of years ago, I had a piano part in from a good player (audio only) and spent time trying to figure out where the distortion was coming from... from a big f-off Kurzweil preset, is where. If I'd had the midi I'd have put it through Pianoteq.
