SOMEONE OUT THERE WITH SAME MIDI PROBLEM? (MBOX)

MessageAuthor

Hello! I have both the MBox and Digi 002 rack. Bought them recently, so I was not aware of what seems to be a MIDI problem (at least with the MBox, I will be trying later with the Digi 002rack). It happens that I recorded in ProTools LE some MIDI playing in my master MIDI keyboard controller, and when I played back the sequence, some notes were missing (well, the output was assigned to an old Sound Canvas, 24-polyphony external sound module), but anyway the notes stealing was not heard when I recorded the performance... so this led me to have a look at MIDI event list and I was surprised that THERE WERE 2 COPIES of each note I had played: at the very same tick, one with duration set to 0 and then the real note. I first thought that that was some kind of ProTools notation for the event-on stuff on the notes, but then I realized that I could manually delete some of those "extra" 0-length notes and then the performance went smooth just as I had played it when recorded with the MIDI keyboard. Someone out there with the same problem? Could it be due to the fact I am using a SoundBlaster Audigy as the MIDI interface (when working with MBox, I mean, because as I said I have yet to check out if the same problem persists when using the Digi 002 Rack for MIDI input/output). The problem is getting me very upset because it's rather obvious I will not want to spend my time manually deleting "extra" 0-length MIDI notes! Thanks in advance. Moises

I forgot... I had the very SAME problem when using an alternative MIDI keyboard controller from some other brand. Any ideas of what the problem might be????? Thanks again. Moises

On the Keyboard controller, you've probably got it set to "Local On" Echo'ing midi Thru - Look for the setting on your controller, and set it to "Local Off" this should fix your problem.

Hello. Thanks for the advice, but Local Control has nothing to do with this issue. I know what Local Control means, but this is not the problem I'm having. What happens is that each notes gets DOUBLY recorded in ProTools, no matter which controller or Local Control option I choose. I know Local Control can make your sound module sound "twice", but won't be the cause of a copy with zero length of each note you play when recording, being recorded, right? Someone can give me an advice of what's happening? Moises

- exactly how do you have things cabled up? - try the 002 interface and see if you get the same result
